Journalistic weddings

'Authentic and unobtrusive' is how I approach photographing a couples wedding day.

By 'Authentic' I mean real images captured as they happen. A wedding is a once off event in a couples life so I want to capture those real moments. As a photographer if your constantly directing the events the images your capturing will lack emotion and spontaneity. So essentially I prefer to work quietly and record the real moments which I know you'll cherish for the rest of your life.

So does being 'unobtrusive' mean you won't know I'm there? Not really, I'm there but the aim is for you not to mind.

I usually work alone, having assistants or 'second photographers' attracts attention and makes it much harder for me to blend in. So when you book me, it's me you get!

There's also times at your wedding when you'll need your photographer to be assertive. You'll want family group photos, traditionally this can be a stressful time for the couple as they run about trying to get the families together. It doesn't have to be like this, I always run through a schedule before the wedding day so we can plan the family photos, so everyone knows where we need them and when. Not only does this approach save a lot of precious time but your also rewarded with a set of family photos where everyone looks relaxed and you feel unhurried.

There's lots of words photographers use to market themselves- Journalistic, Vintage, Classical, Fine Art... So whats the difference? Marketing...but I don't think it matters really, whats important is the end results and how you got there. I've been doing this for a while and have the gained the experience to produce work I can stand over regardless of conditions, a little rain for example is never an excuse for lowering the standard of work, if anything it should add to the authenticity of the photography.

Wedding style extends beyond how I work on the wedding day itself, we also have albums to consider. A well designed album is something you should be proud to show to your friends and family not put in a box under the bed! I use a contemporary range of handmade albums which will last a lifetime and longer. Facebook and Pinterest are cool but you can't hand it to your children or grandchildren in a few decades.

There's images of some album's here but really you need to hold them in your hands to get an idea of the quality and options. You've likely seen my wedding portfolio here, I always recommend you also call to my studio where you can see other couples finished albums, seeing real albums is the only way to know for sure what to expect as a finished product.

So in summary, I endeavour to provide you with a beautiful collection of photographs, in a modern styled album, captured in an honest, unobtrusive manner. Your welcome to call into my Portarlington studio, have a cup of tea and a chat about your wedding day plans.
